As with all furniture made in this shop, this piece was crafted utilizing traditional mortise and tenon and dovetail joinery. The entertainment center is designed to match the style and feel of an existing antique piece owned by this customer. Having it custom made allowed us to fit in all the modern convenience available today, such as a large television, VCR, stereo, and Nintendo for the children.

The construction of this kitchen utilizes traditional mortise and tenon and dovetailed joinery. All panels have a natural bookmatched look achieved by using solid wood instead of veneer.

18th Century European-Style Cabinets
This kitchen was designed from details taken from a 1737 English churchwarden's cabinet. The stile and rails are quartersawed white oak; using quartersawed figured white oak for the raised panels. The kitchen cabinets house a computer workstation, utility closet, china cabinet, and pantry. All of the iron hardware was custom made for this project.

As always, with this project we carefully selected and tracked each piece of wood from the beginning of the milling process to achieve the continuous flow from stiles, to rails, to panels. These details may not at first glance be noticed, but give the room a warm feel and uniform flow that can not be achieved from random selection.

Contemporary Figured Cherry Bookmatched Front Entrance
As with all our exterior doors, when bookmatching is requested, we use a unique traditional technique to assure stability and achieve the bookmatched look we are famous for. This technique involves taking a stable wood such as mahogany and ripping it into 1 ½" strips, reversing the grains, and gluing it back together to create a solid core. To this core we apply a ¼" solid wood veneer, made in the shop. By making our own veneer out of thick pieces of solid wood, we can slice one piece several times and butterfly them on the door front to achieve that book-matched, wood grain pattern.

As with all doors made in this shop, we utilize traditional woodworking techniques such as mortise and tenon joinery. This allows us to rely on time tested traditional joint to keep the door together, instead of adhesives that in time will wear out.

Bookmatched reclaimed Heart Pine library doors.
As with most of our doors, beautiful wood was selected and the grain was accentuated by bookmatching the panels, stiles, and rails.

This is an example of how attention to detail and good design can come together to achieve a grand entrance. This entryway includes custom paneling, trim, molding, three curved archways, and two recessed alcoves.

Honduras Mahogany Frame Example
This frame is an example of bookmatching wood grain. The panel consists of two pieces of Mahogany that are a mirror image of each other. To achieve this look, we sort through each piece of lumber on delivery and designate it to a particular part of the job. Then each piece is numbered and tracked through the milling process. Sometimes on a big job, we order the lumber to be cut from the same lot, and numbered in sequence to insure a continuous flow in the woods tone and grain from panel to panel or piece to piece. As with most panels, this one is constructed utilizing through mortise and tenon joinery with each joint pegged.
